Troubleshooting Guide¶
This guide helps you identify and resolve common issues with the Reputation Monitor system.
Common Issues¶
1. API Connection Issues¶
Symptoms: - "Unable to connect to the API" error - Timeout errors - SSL certificate errors
Solutions: 1. Check your internet connection 2. Verify the API endpoint URL 3. Check if the API service is running 4. For SSL errors, ensure your system time is correct
2. Authentication Failures¶
Symptoms: - "Invalid API key" error - 401 Unauthorized responses - Authentication token expiration
Solutions: 1. Verify your API key is correct 2. Check if the API key has the required permissions 3. Regenerate your API key if necessary 4. Ensure the API key is being sent in the correct header
3. Rate Limiting¶
Symptoms: - 429 Too Many Requests errors - "Rate limit exceeded" messages - Temporary service unavailability
Solutions:
1. Implement exponential backoff in your client
2. Reduce request frequency
3. Check the Retry-After
header for when to retry
4. Consider requesting a higher rate limit if needed
Error Messages¶
API Errors¶
Error Code | Description | Resolution |
---|---|---|
400 | Bad Request | Check your request parameters |
401 | Unauthorized | Verify your API key |
403 | Forbidden | Check your permissions |
404 | Not Found | Verify the endpoint URL |

Sentiment Analysis Issues¶
Problem: Inaccurate sentiment analysis - Cause: Sarcasm or complex language - Solution: Review and adjust sentiment analysis settings
Problem: No sentiment results - Cause: Text too short or in unsupported language - Solution: Provide more context or check language support
Performance Issues¶
Slow Queries¶
Symptoms: - Long response times - Timeout errors - High server load
Solutions: 1. Add appropriate indexes to the database 2. Optimize your queries 3. Use pagination for large result sets 4. Consider using caching
High Memory Usage¶
Symptoms: - Application crashes - Slow performance - High memory consumption
Solutions: 1. Process data in smaller batches 2. Optimize data structures 3. Increase available memory 4. Check for memory leaks
Data Issues¶
Missing Data¶
Symptoms: - Incomplete search results - Missing fields in responses - Gaps in time series data
Solutions: 1. Check data collection status 2. Verify API rate limits 3. Check for data retention policies 4. Review error logs for data processing issues
Data Inconsistencies¶
Symptoms: - Conflicting information - Outdated data - Inconsistent formatting
Solutions: 1. Check data sources for updates 2. Verify data synchronization processes 3. Implement data validation 4. Check for timezone issues
Integration Issues¶
Webhook Problems¶
Symptoms: - Webhook not being called - 4xx/5xx errors from your endpoint - Duplicate or missing events
Solutions: 1. Verify your endpoint is publicly accessible 2. Check your endpoint's response codes 3. Implement idempotency keys 4. Review webhook logs
Authentication with Third-Party Services¶
Symptoms: - Authentication failures with external services - Expired tokens - Permission errors
Solutions: 1. Verify API keys and tokens 2. Check OAuth token expiration 3. Review required permissions/scopes 4. Rotate credentials if necessary
Logging and Debugging¶
Enabling Debug Logging¶
Common Log Entries¶
Log Level | Description | Action |
---|---|---|
DEBUG | Detailed debug information | Usually safe to ignore |
INFO | Normal operation messages | Review for important events |
WARNING | Non-critical issues | Investigate potential problems |
ERROR | Errors that need attention | Investigate immediately |
CRITICAL | System failure | Take immediate action |
